SAMPLE THREE DAY ITINERARY

Perfect if you're short on time but big on ambition!  You'll have to cycle around 50 km a day (say 4.5 - 5 hours a day at the average cycling speed of 11 kph.) But won't bother you - because you're a machine! 

If you start from Dunedin or Middlemarch:
Day 1: Middlemarch-Waipiata (52 km)
Day 2: Waipiata-Lauder (55 km)
Day 3: Lauder-Clyde (44 km)

If you start at Queenstown or Clyde:
Day 1: Clyde-Lauder (44 km)
Day 2: Lauder-Ranfurly (48 km)
Day 3: Ranfurly-Middlemarch (60 km)

Four days means you'll travel at a more relaxed pace.  You'll  still  cover between 35 - 45 km's a day (say 4 - 4.5 hours cycling) but you'll have time to stop and explore along the way. Or just sit and be at one with the universe. Say ommm.

If you start at Queenstown or Clyde:
Day 1: Clyde-Omakau (37 km)
Day 2: Omakau-Wedderburn (41.5 km) or stay off the trail at Naseby
Day 3: Wedderburn-Hyde (46 km)
Day 4: Hyde-Middlemarch (27.5)

If you start at Dunedin or Middlemarch:
Day 1: Middlemarch-Hyde (27.5)
Day 2: Hyde-Ranfurly (32.5)
Day 3: Ranfurly-Lauder (48 km)
Day 4: Lauder-Clyde (44 km)

A five day (or more) trip means you're cycling around 2.5 - 3 hours each day. Perfect for those re-introducing their rears to a saddle, and for people who want to stop and smell the roses - or in this case,  the wild thyme...

Day 1: Middlemarch-Hyde (27 km)
Day 2: Hyde-Waipiata (25 km)     
Day 3: Waipiata-Oturehua (33 km)
Day 4: Oturehua-Omakau (29 km)
Day 5: Omakau-Clyde (37 km)

If you start at Queenstown or Clyde:
Day 1: Clyde-Omakau (37 km)     Day 2: Omakau-Oturehua (29 km)
Day 3: Oturehua-Ranfurly (25 km) 
Day 4: Ranfurly-Hyde (32 km)
Day 5: Hyde-Middlemarch (27 km)

 Your final price depends on where you stay, your room configurations, transport to and from Queenstown or Dunedin to and from the trail, daily bag transfers and off-trail activities.  Keep in mind that on a three day trip, getting to and from the trail on your start or end days will cut into your riding time.
